Sacred Heart Mini Vinnies

see - think - do

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days. Today the SVP England & Wales is pleased to highlight its continuing strong links with young people, through the development of its new 'Mini Vinnies' programme - a ground-breaking Primary Schools initiative, based on good work done in Australia, piloted in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, and which is seen as having, "the potential to significantly contribute to the future of our Society."

'Mini Vinnies' are children aged between 7 to 11 (or younger) who, with the permission of their parents and the support of their Schools, are encouraged to embark on their first steps as possible 'Vincentians for life'.

As Mini Vinnies, the youngsters have their own 'treasured' Prayer, Pledge and Badge, a dedicated website and a range of bright and colourful documents which guide them in their formative steps - helping and enabling them to become in every sense, young Vincentians - or 'Mini Vinnies'.

At Sacred Heart our Mini Vinnies are a small but effective team from Year 5 & 6. The team for 2017/18 is as follows:

Rouida Elgerbi
Joseph Mengs
Phoebe Takyi
Alla Al Masri
Skye Taiwo- Sewell
Obehi Monye
Ola Wojcik
Ethan Kangai
Maya A

These children made their mini vinnie pledge at Celebration Assembly on 15/09/17. In the coming weeks they will designate roles including, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Spritual Advisor.

Together, We Learn and Grow in God's Love

The team live the school's ethos statement, the work that they do in school to raise funds and awareness for local charities. They hold weekly meetings where they plan and discuss how they can lead the way for other children to live by the example of Jesus through their actions and words.

Last year, the Mini Vinnies have been preparing to raise money for St George's Crypt and Our Lady of Lourdes soup kitchen. Additionally, the Mini Vinnie mass, involving all the Leeds Mini Vinnie groups has been arranged. the Bishop will lead the mass on the feast day of Vincent de Paul in September 2016.

Latest news - October 2016
The Mini Vinnies dropped off half of the harvest collection at St Vincent's support centre.

The Mini Vinnies dropped off half of the harvest collection at St Georges Cryprt in the centre of Leeds. We have raised money for the crypt before and is was great to see inside the actual crypt itself and be told about the history of the charity. They told us how they work with local people who have fallen on hard times and need help to get back into normal life - this is just what the mini vinnies was set up for!!
Next week we are going to go to St Vincent's to drop off the remaining harvest collection.
