WELCOME TO YEAR 4's VIRTUAL SCHOOL PAGE

Hi Year 4,

Welcome back to your final half term.  I hope you have all been able to have a nice break and are raring to go with the last part of the year.  I know this year has been very different to what we expected but I hope we can finish on a positive and get back to the amazing work we were doing before the holidays.

From this week, I will be back in school fulltime so the teachers blog will look very different but I hope to keep seeing you on Zoom as much as possible and continuing to share what we have all been doing.

Stay Safe,

Mr Briggs

Next Class Online Zoom Meeting: Friday 26th June 11:00

Learning at Home

Check out what we have been getting up to at home during the school closures.  If you want to add a picture to the website, ask your parents to send it me on classdojo.

Year 4 Class Special Mention

Pupil's Choice

After talking with the children on our weekly Zoom meetings, they decided to create their own project.  Each week they will decide what the next step in the project will be and they will share their work the following week.  If there are any questions, feel free to contact me via the school office or in the message board at the bottom on the page.  As this project is created by the children, they can interpret the instruction as they see fit and be creative with how they present their work.

Task:  Produce a piece of writing based on the picture.  This could be  an adventure story, diary or any other idea of your own.

Remember to send me any progress you make and lots of pictures of you producing your work.

Basic Skills

These activities can all be used at the beginning of your day.  There are a variety of things to get your day started so find what works best for you.

TTRockstars

https://play.ttrockstars.com

TTrockstars is probably our most used website as a class.  We use it twice a week in class and is an incredibly useful website for improving times tables which is fundermental for progress in maths.  Children have their login details in their home learning books and I can check how every child has got on from home.  They should complete a sound check, accept my challenges then can use the studio to try and improve their speed.

Reading Bingo and Virtual Book Club

https://www.sacredheartleeds.org.uk/page.php?id=11237

Pick an activity to complete from your bingo card or check out the new Virtual Book Club on the school website.  Myself and Miss Wood will be updating this regularly to provide a variety of tasks for your to complete.  Don't forget, simply sitting in a comfy space quietly with your reading book is a very powerful way to stimulate your mind.

PE - 5 minute challenge

Starting your day by doing something active is a great way to wake you up and also start your day energetically.  Have a go at the 5 minute workout below.  Simply do each exercise for 1 minute before you start the rest of your work each day.

Maths

After startig your day on TTRockstars, make sure you then apply your skills on one of our maths websites.  We have been using mathletics throughout the year but if you do any work on Eedi, I can mark it and give your feedback.  Have a look at the problem of the week and the documents below if you need any extra practice.

Mathletics

https://login.mathletics.com

Mathletics is a maths website where I will set children work weekly based on what we have covered in class.  I will be able to check how each child has done with the previous week's work and set th following week's work accordingly.

Eedi

https://app.eedi.com

Eedi is a new website for year 4 and provides a set of questions each week with different answers.  Children have to select the right answer but then explain why this is the right answer.  I can view their answers and give them individual feedback on each incorrect answer.

White Rose Maths

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

White Rose Maths is the scheme of work we follow in school so you should be familiar with the styles of questions.  This is a really useful website as they provide videos for how to do the concept then questions for you to practice.  Once you have used this, look for the same topic on mathletics.  The worksheets for each lesson will be uploaded in the documents block below.

Problem of the Week

English

It is important that the first task you complete is the task set in your home learning book.  If you need anymore sheets then they are attached below here and I will add one more everyweek.  When you complete this task, you can apply your skills on Night Zookeeper.  Please try to complete 2-5 pieces of writing a week using the website and make sure these are planned, thoughful and that each piece is equivalent to half a page in your writing books.

Night Zoo Keeper

www.nightzookeeper.com

Please use this website to complete reading and writing activities set daily by Mr Briggs.  Each child has their own log in details in their home learning book and I aim to mark every child's work within 24 hours providing them with individual feedback.  The tasks I set are linked to work we have done in school or are simply good fun and things I think the children will enjoy.

Example (Year 4 standard of writing)

Once upon a time, there lived a selfish crab called Cadish, who only thought about himself. "Everybody out of my way Cadish coming through UGH you all should bow down to me!" yelled the selfish crab. "We are not your servants and you are not a royal highness." said the snail. "You think I care snail I'm the only beautiful one around here, none of you have as shiny arms or legs as me and I need more better food everyday." complained Cadish. "You should be grateful of what you have Cadish, see I don't even have legs." cried flick (the fish). "HA you think I even care, now I'm about on a shopping spree with all my MONEY!" said the crab. (Cadish goes shopping). "Hmm where to first, oh yes we are going Gucci right now." (Cadish enters Gucci). "Hi, so I'm on a shopping spree and I wanted to tell you don't disturb me at all because if you do then... UGH whatever, have a horrible day (smiles)!" said Cadish to the cashier and employs. "Let's see I have the Gucci bag, shoes, purse, shirt, pants but not the hoodie I'm going to get the hoodie that one with the red background and orange flames, only 600 pounds, come on that's the lowest I've ever spent." That's 60-". " Ye ye I know (throws 600 pounds on the cashier's table) bye. "Where to next?". "I know Sephora is the best at makeovers." (After the shopping spree). "You know what I have everything I need and my "friends" don't. So Cadish decided he was going to "share" all of his stuff and they all lived badly ever after (because Cadish never shared he's a savage)

The End!

Our Faith is central to everything we do at Sacred Heart. During this time when our school is closed, everything is different and things seem a bit strange our prayers and faith can help us be connected to each other and provide comfort and peace.

Visit the Our Faith page on the virtual school to find some links to ways to stay connected to what we would be doing in school; ways to pray; ideas of things to do at home; celebrations of things pupils have done and a message board for any intentions that you would like to make for our school community to pray for.

Science

Each week, there will be a science challenge as well as links to science online.  It is entirely upto you which afternoon you do this and you can present your work however you want.  Remember to send pictures on classdojo so we can keep updating our website.

Online Links

11am Science with Maddie Moate https://www.youtube.com/user/maddiemoate

History and Geography

Each week, there will be a history and geography task for you complete.  Similiar to science, it is entirely upto you which day of the week you do these and you can present your work however you want.

Art and Design

You will also find an Art and Design activity set each week which will hopefully give you a super creative way to break up your week.  I hope through doing these, some of you are inspired to have a go at your own original pieces of work.  Please share these with me on classdojo so we can try and create our own virtual art gallery.

PE

With everyone being limited how much they can get outside, it is important that we all stay as active as possible.  The links below should give you lots of ideas of how you can stay active at home.

9am daily PE with Joe Wicks
www.youtube.com/thebodycoach

11:30 daily dance with Oti Mabusi
Mindfullness

Practicing mindfullness is very important during these stressful times.  It helps to put things in perspective and allows us to see things in a different way.  Each week, I will upload a different challenge to help you relax at home and there will always be colouring sheets or you to print and stick in your home learning books.

Previous Topics

Below here you will find any activities from previous topics we have either done in school or used on the virtual school page.  If you enjoyed learning about them, then you can always do a little more.  Remember, you can always be creative and come up with your own activity from the documents and send me a picture of what you complete.
